“PREMIO SANT’ORSOLA.” Announced the competition of ideas “Castiglion Fiorentino OF THE FUTURE”




Signed the Memorandum of understanding between the City of Castiglion Fiorentino and the Santa Chiara Study Center for the redevelopment of some areas of the old town Castiglione. The ceremony was held last Saturday in the board room of the Palazzo San Michele at the presence of the Environment and Territory, Development Policies and Recovery Old Town and Hamlets, furniture and Redevelopment Urban Spaces, Rossano Gallorini, and Sharon L. Jones, President ITALART Centro Studi Santa Chiara.

During the press conference was presented the logo of the event by the designer and architect Francesco Gailli.

The objectives of the project “St. Ursula Award” competition of ideas “Castiglion Fiorentino of the Future” are divided into two sections, those general and specific ones.

General Objectives:

- Protecting the characteristics of the built or natural, as an element of wellbeing that constitutes a strategic factor of attraction of settlements and cities;

- Develop design solutions aimed at redevelop areas and disadvantaged areas of the city center by developing of ideas that will improve the accessibility, usability and architectural and environmental quality.

Specific Objectives:

- Increasing the awareness of civil society, private organizations, and public authorities in the process of redevelopment of urban areas;

- Enhance the economic and social vitality of urban centers;

- Encourage initiatives to encourage innovative projects and to exchange experiences in the cultural and artistic heritage.

In the year 2013, the project areas will be those listed below with its design theme.

1. Area located at the top of Viale Mazzini: for it is expected the redevelopment of the area through the design of new roads, the project of a square and one or more private buildings for public use, construction of parking above ground and / or underground;

2. Redevelopment of the main entrance to the city of Castiglion Fiorentino by the partial demolition of the building located in the bottleneck Via Madonna del Rivaio and redevelopment of the nearby Piazza Risorgimento through the construction of underground parking and accommodation of the pedestrian plaza;

3. Redevelopment of the wide area located in Via Trieste between the same street and Via Piave, with modification of roads, construction of underground car parks, underground garages, pedestrian paths reserved for plugging center with the school campus Via Ghizzi. Implementation of a contemporary art museum and exhibition space in the current area the property of the Serristori to be allocated the remaining part park. Redevelopment and expansion also mechanized accessibility to the historical center, the project may also extend to the redevelopment of the football field “spiaggina” and surrounding areas.

4. Redevelopment and expansion of the parking lot located between Via di Porta Romana of Consolation and Via Adua, through the construction of a small parking garage and ancillary services;

5. Widening of the road of Via Trento near Via Val di Chio and Via di San Quirico, for the construction of underground garages and parking, study of accessibility to the city center through the use of the property ladder existing private and / or other system, even mechanized;

6. Organic design of the area between Via Trento and the planned new road route Codivilla with the creation of one or more specific public or private buildings for public use, infrastructure and services (gym for the schools located in the city center, cinema, theater open etc …). The buildings will have to be made in the area between the existing road network and project where large earthworks provided (carryovers by the construction of the road), will allow to reduce the visual impact.


The competition is open to young students of the Santa Chiara Study Center in Castiglion Fiorentino and works created by authors with up to 40 years of age. Participants will be supported in the process of conception and design, by the professors of the courses.
