Porta Fiorentina organizes the Medieval Banquet, Saturday 25, in the cloister of San Francesco.

Organized by the Porta Fiorentina Terziere the tasty event revives guests a glimpse of medieval life: that of conviviality, hospitality and celebration that you could live in a Tuscan noble family of the Lower Middle Ages.
The Banquet, now in its eleventh edition, is held every 4th Saturday of May in the May Castiglionese, embellished with the prestigious award by the Region of Tuscany such as “Historical Event” recorded in the regional Journal since 2013. The evocation of the Medieval Banquet takes place inside the cloister of the church of San Francesco, where guests can admire the beauty of the place greeted by lovely ladies and gentle lords in period costume. Our ladies offer a rose and the diners are accompanied at the table with assigned seats while their feet are anticipated by rose petals sown on the path. A privilege to be present at the banquet as the cloister can not contain more than 150 seats.
“After a long study we were able to recreate the medieval costumes. They are all hand-sewn with the utmost attention to detail – explains Sergio Lorenzetti, for several years president of the lily orange-green door Fiorentina – The same care and attention we used for the foods that every year we present to the Banquet. Our chefs are in fact specialized in the preparation of food medieval. “
Greeted by music and singing guests take place followed by Sir and Dame hosts, announced by trumpets and the roll of drums. But which foods were offered in the noble houses of the Middle Ages? They were sweet and sour flavor and spicy foods, typical of the Middle Ages.
At the banquet every year is a different menu and the whole thing takes place in an atmosphere enlivened by jesters, flag Castiglione, acrobats, jugglers and fire eaters, creating an authentic medieval atmosphere. The cost? Only € 35 for a leap into the past through the pleasures of the palate and a culture that remains in the roots of Castiglion Fiorentino. Not only worth it but it is best to book in time to avoid not finding the place. The 2013 edition of the medieval banquet will be held Saturday, May 25.
