Wine is often synonymous with celebration. Not only because this drink naturally brings joy but also because “making wine” is a transaction pleasant and delicate , we would say cosmetically elegant , and with it a whole series of gestures become rituals , and therefore almost revered by the people of the countryside. The harvest in Val di Chiana kicks off in September and sometimes lasts until October. The main grape in the province of Arezzo is the Sangiovese but lately there is a growing practice not to abandon the tradition of producing wines made with a small percentage of Cabernet or Merlot . After all, in the rows , which for centuries have covered the hills so dear to Piero della Francesca are always present varieties more details. And some of these still do not know to define the variety .

 

They were the vines that served to “round up” the Sangiovese, then we can say that the cuts that today’s winemakers are in the basement, once the peasants made them wisely in the vineyard, but the tradition, fortunately, continues. Today, thanks to the recovery of historic vines (such as Canaiolo, Malvasia, Foglia Tonda, Colorino) Sangiovese has found many former comrades, and the wines with the spirit of the place are becoming increasingly popular and appreciated.

 

The territory has a DOCG Chianti Arezzo Arezzo hills and well with 3 DOC red wines, rosé, white and Vin Santo: Cortona and Val di Chiana Pietraviva.

 

 

In this first part of autumn the province of Arezzo and in particular the Chiana Valley comes alive with festivals related to harvest grapes and as the “Feast of Bacchus ” organized by terziere Porta Fiorentina. Farms open their cellars and streets teeming with people looking for local products.
